Publish a DMARC record in DNS

Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance (DMARC) is an email authentication protocol that builds on SPF and DKIM. This section describes the prerequisites and steps required to publish a DMARC record using any DNS provider. Genesys Cloud monitors DMARC status only if a DMARC record is published in your DNS provider.

The following steps provide an overview of the steps to publish the DMARC record. If a DMARC record exists, modify the existing record instead of creating a duplicate. Where applicable, the following documentation provides the navigation path relevant to each DNS service provider.

  1. Sign in to your DNS hosting provider.
    • Microsoft 365: Microsoft 365 Admin Center > Settings > Domains > Select domain > DNS records
    • Google Domains / Cloud DNS
      • Google Domains > Select domain > DNS
      • Google Cloud Console > Network Services > Cloud DNS > Zones
    • GoDaddy: My Products > Domains > Select domain > DNS
    • Cloudflare: Select domain > DNS > Records
    • AWS Route 53: AWS Console > Route 53 > Hosted Zones > Select domain
  2. Navigate to DNS management for your domain.
    • Microsoft 365: Settings > Domains > Select domain > DNS records
    • Google Domains: DNS > Custom records
    • GoDaddy: DNS Management > Records section
    • Cloudflare: DNS > Records tab
    • AWS Route 53: Hosted Zones > Select domain > Create Record
  3. Add a new record. To generate an accurate entry for your domain, see the steps outlined in .
  4. Save the record. Allow time for DNS propagation.
  5. To verify whether a DMARC record exists, click Menu > Digital and Telephony > Email > Domains.
  6. Review the DMARC status.
    • Valid – Indicated by a green panel. Indicates that a DMARC record was detected, which is configured correctly.
    • Invalid – Indicated by a red panel. Indicates that a DMARC record exists but is incorrectly formatted. Update and publish the existing DMARC record.
    • Not Present – Indicated by a gray panel. Indicates that no DMARC record exists. Publish a new DMARC record.
