Configure DMARC for Genesys Cloud custom domains
Before you configure your DMARC record, read the following pointers on the configuration requirements:
- Centralize your DMARC configuration: If you have multiple domains, you can centralize the DMARC configuration and create one record on the root domain and apply it to multiple subdomains. For example, if you configured an outbound domain for
sales.na.mybrand.comand an inbound domain forservice.mybrand.com,you can configure a single DMARC record at the root domain,_dmarc.mybrand.com, which applies to both the domains. If Genesys Cloud does not detect a DMARC record for_dmarc.sales.na.mybrand.com, it checks for one at_dmarc.mybrand.com(also known as the Organizational Domain), and then sets the status based on the record availability on the root domain. However, it is still valid to configure a specific DMARC record for each domain. The provided DMARC record values are minimum guidelines monitored for compliance by Genesys Cloud. For example, you could configure your DMARC record to have a value of
v=DMARC1;p=reject;rua=dmarc-admin@mybrand.com. This configuration exceeds the minimum requirement policy; Genesys Cloud does not process these values.
Major mailbox providers require SPF and DKIM for successful delivery and future DMARC enforcement readiness.
- To verify whether a DMARC record exists, click Menu > Digital and Telephony > Email > Domains.
- Under the Custom Domains tab, locate the organization’s email domain and click Edit. The Domain Verification page opens.
- To verify whether a DMARC record exists for campaigns and agentless domains, under the Campaigns/Agentless Domains tab, locate the organization’s email domain and click Edit. The Domain Verification page opens.
- Review the DMARC status.
- Valid – Indicated by a green panel. Indicates that a DMARC record was detected, which is configured correctly.
- Invalid – Indicated by a red panel. Indicates that a DMARC record exists but is incorrectly formatted. Update and publish the existing DMARC record.
- Not Present – Indicated by a gray panel. Indicates that no DMARC record exists. Publish a new DMARC record.
- If the status is either Invalid or Not Present:
- Copy the displayed TXT values to create a new record.
- Host/Name – _dmarc.yourdomain.com
- Value – v=DMARC1; p=noneNote: The
p=nonepolicy enables monitoring only and does not instruct receiving systems to quarantine or reject emails. Genesys checks only for the minimum compliance; you can configure any other higher value such asp=reject.
- Publish a DMARC record.
- Save the record. Allow time for DNS propagation.
- Copy the displayed TXT values to create a new record.
