Genesys Cloud's Dial By Extension action enables callers to transfer to specific extensions through menu choices and task sequences. The feature includes customizable settings for DTMF and speech recognition, with a 60-minute delay period for new extensions to become accessible. Key configuration options include a customizable action name, extension data storage in string variables for unsuccessful attempts, adjustable inter-digit timeout settings, configurable re-prompt audio messages, and definable retry attempts before call disconnection. The system stores failed extension entries in a variable for tracking purposes and allows administrators to set specific timeouts between digit entries to optimize the caller experience.
