Alternative shifts trades overview

AI-generated summary

Genesys Cloud enables agents to trade complete shifts by offering alternative shifts that match configured service goal impacts. Agents access the Shift Trade Panel within the Schedules tab to browse, search, or submit alternative shift trades alongside unmatched trades from other agents. The platform supports four primary trading actions: Browse Shifts (selecting from offered alternatives), New Trade (specifying days and time ranges for acceptance), Add Trade (accepting individual alternative shifts), and Drop Trade (removing shifts that become available for others or potentially removed if approved). Access to shift trading functionality requires specific Genesys Cloud licenses (CX 1-4, Digital, WEM Add-ons, or EX) and role-based permissions. Administrators need Workforce Management Business Unit permissions (Add, Edit, View); supervisors require Workforce Management Alternative Shift and Shift Trade Request permissions (Edit, View); agents need Workforce Management Agent Alternative Shift (Submit) and Agent Shift Trade Request (Participate) permissions. The shift trade approval process evaluates whether alternative shift trades maintain acceptable service goal impacts. Alternative shift trades that satisfy configured service goal impacts are automatically approved by the system, with the system processing all alternative shift trades periodically every few minutes and evaluating multiple trades for the same schedule together during the automatic approval process. Trades are denied if they no longer meet service goals due to concurrent schedule changes or other trades submitted in the same batch. Upon approval, accepted trades modify the agent's schedule by adding or removing shifts as applicable. Supervisors retain override authority to manually approve trade requests that the system denies and can approve denied trades despite system recommendations, with schedule updates applied upon supervisor approval. Additional documentation on shift trade approval procedures is available through related workforce management resources.

Note: If the alternative shift trade is approved, the shift is removed from the schedule.

Notes:

All alternative shift trades are periodically processed every few minutes. If multiple alternative shift trades for a schedule that require approval exist, the system processes them together.
The automatic approval process evaluates whether the submitted trades satisfy the service goal impacts. If the service goal impacts are within the acceptable range, the trades are approved and the schedule is updated.
If the alternative shift trade no longer satisfies the service goal impact; for example, other changes to the schedule or alternative shift trades submitted in the same batch, then the trade is denied.
If an alternative shift trade is denied by the system, a supervisor may override the system’s decision and approve the trade. If a supervisor approves a trade, the schedule is updated. For more information about approving shift trades, see Approve alternative shift trades.
