Genesys Cloud support of 10DLC (10-Digit Long Code)

In 2021, the US/CA wireless carriers commercialized 10-Digit Long Code (10DLC) to legitimize Application-to-Person (A2P) text messaging, creating a formal process for allowing 10-digit local phone numbers to be used to send and receive text messages. The goal for 10DLC is part of a concerted effort to decrease text spam and phishing text messages. All text messaging programs using US/CA 10-Digit local phone numbers, regardless of the use case, must be registered to avoid blocking.

Registration process

The registration form consists of five main pieces of information:

Company information – Name, Federal EIN, Address, and so on.
Use case information – How SMS messages are being used (e.g. customer service chat, notifications, marketing, etc.).
Opt-In Method – How consent is obtained from end users (e.g. company website, contract, IVR, agent/phone, keyword, etc.).
Call to Action (CTA) – A screenshot of the actual opt-in method.
10DLC phone numbers to be associated with the program.

After you complete the form, email it to GenesysCloudSMS@genesys.com. To complete your 10DLC registration, a two-factor authentication email will be sent to the address you provided on the form. This email will be sent from The Campaign Registry. This verification must be completed before the registration process can move forward.

What is a 10-digit long code (10DLC)?

10DLC is a local phone number businesses use for A2P text messaging.

What is A2P text messaging (SMS)?

Application-to-person or A2P text messaging is classified as any SMS messaging to or from software regardless of the use case. All Genesys Cloud SMS messaging is classified as A2P.

How long does registration take?

The lead-time to complete registration is approximately 1-2 weeks.

Do I have to register a number I purchased from the SMS Inventory?

Yes, you must follow this registration process regardless of if the number was purchased directly from the SMS inventory, if you are adding SMS services to a number you already own, or if you are moving your SMS services over to Genesys.

Yes, regardless of the use case, end users must consent to receive SMS messages. SMS consent must be explicit and separated from consent for other forms of communication.

Will the wireless carriers really limit the amount of SMS I can send every day?

Yes. One of the overarching drivers behind the 10DLC program is to protect networks and subscribers from a flood of messages.

How will I know if I’ve reached my daily limits?

Genesys will help manage daily limits on your behalf through rate limiting controls built into the platform.

What fees will be assessed, and will my rates change?

Each wireless carrier has taken a different approach to commercializing the offer including registration fees and new per message surcharges that vary based on use case, direction, and other contributing factors. Genesys will begin passing-through one-time registration and recurring fees at no markup. Per message surcharges will be covered by our current per message pricing with no anticipated changes.
